dala horse pennant | ornament
It is my understanding that a dala horse as a Scandinavian folk art traditions is rooted in soldiers carving the wooden horses in exchange for soup during a very cold winter at wartime. These carved and often red painted horses became the symbol of Dalarna, as well as of Sweden in general. Though not originally Christmas specific, here in the US they have become a symbol of not just Scandinavia but the Christmas season.
To further drive home the Christmas point on this pint-sized pennant the words God Jul appear. This is Swedish for Merry Christmas.
These pint-sized pennants are made just like the larger felt pennants just a lot smaller. Screen printed on stiffened felt with stitched trim boarder on the side. These have a riveted hole punched in them to put a hook in to hang it from your Christmas tree or just hang them on the wall.
I design, hand cut, hand screen and finally hand stitch each pennant in my subterranean studio. All possible care is taken to assure consistency but slight variations may exist within the run.
