Augusta Savage Pennant
I wanted to celebrate black history month in my art classroom which lead me to Augusta Savage. Hers is an interesting and at times sad story. She was a wonderful sculpture who fought against racism and sexism and was a key participant in the Harlem Renaissance. The fact that they just bulldozed her monumental sculpture "The Harp" after the NY World's Fair is so disappointing. Anyway, check her out if you get a chance and then this pennant will make total sense.
This is a screen printed vintage-styled felt pennant with a traditional stitched trim.
I design, hand cut, hand screen and finally hand stitch each pennant in my subterranean studio. All possible care is taken to assure consistency but slight variations may exist within the run.
